Well this is my first, and hopefully last post in which I address an issue related to the hydra trash party. I really hope this won’t turn into wank, but unfortunately there’s still a need for a little upkeep within the htp. I believe that htp is, for the most part, a haven for both kinksters and survivors of sexual abuse, but in order for it to remain that way, we need to police our own safe place.

All participants of the htp should remember that it originated as a kink meme, and continues to be a kink meme that heavily involves dubcon and rape, along with other forms of maltreatment to fictional characters. There are going to be comments of how titillating the fics are because that is the intent of many htp writers and the basis of the meme itself. For writers who want to process their personal experiences with abuse via Bucky/Steve/Hydra and so forth, you should think long and hard about writing it in explicit detail then posting it to a kink meme. Doing so can be terribly misleading to readers and is a set up for someone to get hurt when it is no one’s intention.

In saying that, each reader and writer of dubcon and rape have their own reason for doing so, and htp has even welcomed fans who don’t get off on the scenarios in which we place the characters. Because of this, it is understandable why one would post such fics in htp: it’s probably one of the safest places in fandom to share traumatic experiences through storytelling. So, my suggestion for anyone who considers publishing to htp and doesn’t want comments that’ll make them feel uncomfortable is to simply request it in an author’s note. That’s it. Super easy. Not only will this help keep the writers as safe as possible, it’ll give the readers clarity of the story’s purpose and prevent them from feeling like shit because they’ve unintentionally hurt someone.
