Time equals money at a con

Folks? They are never going to let you have a longer experience with a celeb at a con. It is to the benefit of the con and the celeb that they get as many people through as possible in the shortest time possible.

I’ve worked cons in the past where the way they controlled it at the celeb’s request by limiting the number of photo ops or autographs (this was for health reasons). Otherwise they set a very high limit.

Yes, some of the celebs do it because they love the interaction but don’t fool yourself here. They are doing it for the paycheck. Reliable speculation has it that the autographs are 100% into the celeb’s pocket and 50% of the photo ops. Do the math. Even at the low end of the scale with a fairly steady line they are going to walk away with 5 figures for a day’s work. And it’s usually money they don’t have to split with their agent or their managers or publicists, unlike their movie money. Someone on the upper end of the price range you can count on six figures in a day and they work 6 hours.

They may not like the way they get treated (it’s definitely a commodity business) but they also want to get invited back. Money makes the world go round, my fellow tumblrites. Fandom is just another way to make money.
