-There were three earthquakes last night! Not bad, but enough to be a little alarming. Turns out there were 20+ quakes about a hundred or so miles from me in Nevada that were felt all over NorCal. The three ones I noticed were 5.7s and a 5.8 – enough to make the walls rattle, and enough for a reeeeally ominous audible rumbling outside. I live in a relatively seismically stable part of California, but we still will feel the shaking from quakes quite a ways away.
-It might snow next week! I know that is not exciting for people who live almost anywhere but CA, but where I live we only get snow every few years, and I’m really excited about it. Probably will only be an inch or so, but that’s ok! I’ll take it! Plus, a small amount of snow in the foothills means a nice buildup of snow further up the mountains where it is needed.
-I’m considering buying my own pottery wheel. They are really expensive, though, and craigslist has pretty slim (and rusty) pickings. And there are other costs, too, like the clay and the glaze and getting the pieces fired, not to mention making room for a workspace (which I can do if I clear out some stuff) and keeping my garage from becoming too much of a clay stained mess. And I’m not super good at wheel throwing yet, although I have made several passable pieces now. I do like doing it, and I’m happy just making little bowls and mugs. I just don’t know yet if I should make the jump from taking classes to getting my own little workspace set up.
-Been thinking for a while on getting a new tattoo, as it’s been six years since my first one. Even before Richard Adams died, I was thinking of something with a rabbit, they’ve always resonated with me on a symbolic level due in large part to Watership Down. I might have to start brainstorming some tangible concepts.
-I got this Windstone cat sculpture for Christmas and it scares my cat, especially when I have the candle going as it makes the eyes glow and flicker.
I don’t know how close you are to it but Laney College has ongoing education classes in pottery. Basically once you’ve taken one ‘class’ you can pretty much for forever take ‘lab’ sessions with access to the pottery workshop with the wheels indefinitely.
