Important update about Bell Media/Canadian Net Neutrality and how to share your thoughts with the CRTC

allthecanadianpolitics:

So today, my cdnpoli twitter blog (@allthecdnpoli), actually got a private message from the CRTC’s twitter account. The CRTC is Canada’s telecommunications regulator, similar to the US’s FCC (though structured differently).

They noticed that a relatively large amount of responses to the CRTC came from traffic generated by this blog.

One post I shared earlier on this blog contained instructions on how to comment on Bell Media’s anti-piracy/anti-net neutrality proposal.

This is the proposal that Bell Media is apparently planning on bringing to the CRTC (and why Canadians are mad as hell about it):

Bell, Rogers, Cineplex Linked To ‘Radical’ Website Blocking Plan: Report

Bell Leads on Radical Proposal for CRTC-Backed Mandatory Website Blocking System

If you previously reblogged that post with instructions on how to submit comments to the CRTC, can you delete it, as it has wrong information?

The intention behind that post was good, but it was directed to the wrong proposal at the CRTC. The proposal that the vast majority of people sent their net neutrality remarks to was actually about ‘the license renewals of English language television private ownership groups’. People got this mixed up because the proposal was by Bell and Rogers (and Corus).

The CRTC have told me that they have forwarded all these responses from tumblr to the correct proposal, and so if you want to let the CRTC know what your thoughts are about Bell’s proposal you can comment at the link below:

This is where you need to submit your comments. The deadline is open until 13th of February, 2018.

You can read additional information on the comments section here:

As for Net Neutrality, the CRTC said this:

Concerning Net neutrality, the CRTC has supported and reinforced net neutrality in Canada. In fact, the CRTC’s net neutrality framework was developed through a series of decisions confirming that service providers should treat data traffic equally (regardless of the content) to foster consumer choice, innovation and the free exchanges of ideas.

This gives me some hope that if Bell does propose what they are apparently proposing that they’ll be shot down, but lets all keep focus on this until its clear that its not a danger to net neutrality.

I’d appreciate if you could share this post, to clear up some of the misinformation going around tumblr.

Thank you.

Tiny wanderers, there are 12 HOURS LEFT to back WANDERLUST! We have 24% more funding to go, and we need YOUR HELP!

WANDERLUST is an anthology of comics, illustrations, and short stories focused on reimagined myths, legends, and folklore. Our book is proud to celebrate many diverse voices; our myths come from all over the world, and many of our creators have focused on LGBTQ2 characters and their stories.

This book has been created with tons of enthusiasm and dedication, and we would like to give our contributors a chance to see their hard work pay off in the form of a book they can hold in their own hands. We want to make this book because we believe that we’ve created a book that our contributors will love.

Please help us reach our goal! We have a ways to go, but we know we can do it!

***Reminder that there is a chance to win a free copy of WANDERLUST right here!

Matt Damon says innocent men in Hollywood aren’t getting enough credit in wake of #MeToo, Harvey Weinstein

laporcupina:

First question: where the &!!$^@ are his publicist and manager and agent? Because you’d think he’d have shut up after the first time, but now he’s doubling down. He presumably pays a lot of people a lot of money to keep him from doing stupid shit and, for the last twenty years, they’ve managed to do their jobs. Did everyone take off early for Christmas?

Second question: Is Paramount’s PR department thrilled or horrified? Because all of this is coming on a press junket for Downsizing, which they are producing and distributing. And which didn’t get a whole bunch of rave reviews when it hit the film festivals. So can they blame bad box office receipts on Damon’s blathering?

Third question: Who had #NotAllMen on their “memes that should die and never return” bingo card?

i really dislike people who try to force others to be positive about something they don’t like, especially when that thing is being criticized for its racism, sexism, homophobia etc. it’s just another way to silence minorities when they speak out against the negative way in which they are represented (and bad representation IS harmful to minorities irl).

every time poc criticize racism in a popular movie/tv show/novel, a swarm of white people are always like “Just enjoy the damn thing! Stop being so negative, you’re ruining the experience for everyone and you’re the reason why the fandom is so divided”. and it’s such a freaking evil thing to say. they have the privilege of being able to ignore racism whenever they want to, and expect us to do the same. they’re in their perfect little bubble, and how dare we make them uncomfortable by reminding them that their fave movie/tv show is treating its characters and actors of color like shit? instead of realizing that the fandom is “divided” because some fans are racist pieces of shit, they blame it on people denouncing racism and defending themselves. we should just not say anything when people are disrespecting us and treating us like shit, right?

us poc are expected to keep quiet about racism in media and fandom spaces just because white fans don’t like to be uncomfortable. well guess what? we are uncomfortable because on top of enduring racism irl, we also have to face it online and in the fictional world of movies/tv shows. so yeah, i have to complain about and criticize racist directors/productions companies/writers until they get the freaking memo and stop producing racist content. THEN i’ll be able to enjoy my fave movie franchise as uncritically as you do, Becky.

If didn’t see staff post, basically you can now officially blacklist tags within the app. Since many are mobile users here’s how to find the filter. Above is showing that it indeed works. (tagging in anti tag only for information purpose that’s it) Staff didn’t provide visual so here’s one

I didn’t realise you can now blacklist on mobile so there’s now literally no excuse now. If there’s something people don’t want to see specifically they should utilise this system. People can’t use the excuse now that they use mobile
