Does anyone knows of a post or someplace where I can read a good and explanatory post of Wakanda? Like, I need background politics, day to day things, anything, headcanons, whatever can make me learn more about t’challa and wakanda in general? I always love to go antropological on things and way more now. There is obviously the: read the comics, which I have already bookmarked to do. But my free time isn’t that high lately. The amount of comics in my wait list is long lol

It changes drastically from writer to writer, so yeah, you will need to read the
comics (at least one or two from each BP era). If you want a summery,
just check out a wiki or database site.

-Kirby era shows the internal lifestyle.
-McGregor era shows day-to-day life.
-Priest era shows the technological side.
-Hudlin era shows the political.

You have no idea how much I appreciate that you took your time to write all this and that you did a summary of things. A thousand Thank you. I’ll check out everything you said.

Also if you want a fast crash course in Wakandan politics and history, BET did an amazing Black Panther animated series of twelve 10-minute interconnected episodes. It was beautifully designed and well-written, focused on Wakanda defending itself from invasion and the political structure of the country.

I should stream that again sometime, it’s not like it takes super long…

upon learning Shuri is 16 in Black Panther, I quietly revise all my original shipping plans from “adults” to “Shuri is a hopeless baby lesbian with a crush on every single Dora Milaje and soon a big useless enormous crush on MJ, who is like a semi competent but mostly just grungy bisexual with a super popular twitter account that Shuri is obsessed with and MJ is s t o k e d about everything about Wakanda and tweets that she’s doing her senior research project on Wakandan tech and T’Challa, who follows his baby sister’s online crush’s twitter so he can forward Shuri the most embarrassing tweets that will make her furious (“YES BROTHER I DID SEE THAT SELFIE AND I DON’T NEED YOU TO REMIND ME OFF IT”), is like “this is the moment I was born for. This is why I became king” and tweets MJ like “we’re doing youth outreach, come to Wakanda, my very talented and smart and accomplished sister will give you a personal tour :)”  and MJ and Shuri simultaneously die”

the Dora Milaje prepping for MJ’s visit by giving Shuri different and conflicting romantic advice until Okoye tells them it is against their sacred duty to torment the princess into a crush-induced panic attack because she cannot decide between her top twelve outfits and cool confident quips for making a good first impression

MJ meanwhile with Peter is repeatedly punching him in the arm because he just told her that he met T’Challa and she’s furious this hasn’t come up before, and also he’s Spider-man, but that’s not nearly as important as KING T’CHALLA WHAT, DID HE TALK ABOUT HIS SISTER AT ALL, MJ’S BEEN FOLLOWING ARTICLES ABOUT HER FOR YEARS AND SHE SEEMS DOPE AND CUTE AS HELL

THIS IS THE MOMENT I WAS BORN FOR THIS IS WHY I BECAME KING WE’RE DOING YOUTH OUTREACH i feel like i want all of mj’s freaking out to be locked down tight behind the grungy bisexual facade until she really just CAN’T anymore and she steps off the plane and shuri’s there in person shuri is an overflowing fountain of eager delight and crush mj has got this cool locked down until shuri asks how she is and she says ‘your plane was very good’and then does 500000 internal facepalms (@takiki16)

Shuri, so excited and nervous that 10 percent of her attention is freaking out about how she can smell MJ oh no she smells so good, and 70 percent is on trying not to jitter so hard she thrums into a new plane of existence (and then the remaining 20 percent for figuring out cold fusion, nbd): HELOO M-UH-MMM- MICHELLE. DO YOU PREFER TO BE CALLED MICHELLE AND WELCOME TO MY BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY OF WAKANDA. WOULD YOU LIKE TO PHOTO WITH IT FOR YOUR INTERNET FRIENDS. I AM SHURI. YOU MUST KNOW THAT ALREADY. HAHA MY BROTHER TOLD YOU ABOUT ME. I WILL MURDER HIM.

MJ, who has spent the last ten minutes hiding in the bathroom applying deodorant to basically every non-face part of her body because she can’t stop sweating oh my god stop sweating you’re sweating on a three hundred year old chair in a sitting room in a palace in fuckin WAKANDA, and who is so stressed that she’s transcended the human for and is now astral projecting somewhere behind her own body, distantly pitying this new york punk gremlin who thought Formal Plaid was a good idea talk to a real ass honest to god genuine princess with a beautiful smile holding a small cat robot that she hand designed this afternoon on a whim: dope. I love murder. call me MJ

#nearby dora milaje on protection detail: our girl said complete sentences#t’challa on the other end of the advanced super cool walkie talkie: i’m so proud of her. make them take a walk in the gardens together

Stop trying to get black people points by pretending you care about Black Panther. Bucky is the most popular character and there’s nothing wrong with him wanting to be in as many movies as possible.

“black ppl points” yikes.

Anon is correct, we actually have a running list. It’s a very organized spreadsheet.

Wow. Okay.  I have news for anon. Bucky is far from the most popular character. If he was we’d have a heck of a lot more merch for one. By movies made? Actually, the other brown haired white dude would be most popular and by that I would mean Spiderman.

I can appreciate wanting to see your favorite character more. I keep an eye out for the bumpers and mid-credit tag scenes to see if characters I am invested in are going to show up there, where it might be appropriate to see them to tease other movies (which is often how Marvel uses them).

But let’s talk about Black Panther for a minute here. And for the record? I’m white. Just so we’re clear. I don’t do performative ally crap for anyone. What I do is support fannish expression that is healthy, de-colonizing and raises up the best parts of fandom as best as I know how. Black Panther doesn’t need Bucky Barnes, Iron Man, or Captain America. From what we know about BP so far it’s going to be about Wakanda and frankly? White people minus the villians? Don’t go there. It’s a closed country, that’s kinda the point of the thing.

I for one am thrilled that they aren’t in it. They don’t have a place in that story and they shouldn’t be (ask me sometime about my feelings about Iron Man in Civil War). What we know of the plot says that it’s going to be an internal conflict and concerns about how Wakanda got brought into the world, about taking on the kingship. That? Is an awesome origin story that doesn’t owe anything to white men.

You want more Bucky? Awesome. Go write some. I’ll read it. I read a lot of fanfic. As of the time of this post there are 51,757 words with Buck Barnes on AO3. There is no shortage of Bucky and lord knows there is plenty of stuff on tumblr and wattpad and whatever else is out there.

There is NOTHING wrong with wanting more Bucky, but just not here. That’s allowed. The world is allowed to have exclusive spaces that we are not invited to, that are not for us. You, anon, don’t get to have everything and put yourself in everything.  Besides, it wouldn’t hurt for you to go and see it and enjoy it without Bucky. Just go watch it once without mentally inserting him into every scene. See what the world is like.

I feel like there needs to be some kind of post for MCU fans on How To Write About Africa because I feel like there’s a lot of people out there who want to write about Wakanda and T’Challa but are worried about being problematic and that makes me sad because there’s SO MUCH GREAT meta to be had about T’Challa and Wakanda but at the same time there’s a lot of legitimate concerns about perpetuating racist stereotypes and yeah.

T’Challa and Wakanda could be such a great way to introduce people to amazing sci-fi concepts that people should know

This is SO needed.

It’s so easy to be like ‘just try it!’ but the problem with this website is that people don’t think its okay for people to make mistakes. I’ve gotten messages from people who want to write about T’Challa/Wakanda but are nervous about how their work will be perceived and its so sad.

We really need to gather some people who’d be interested in writing a nice little info post!

I’ll start

Joss Whedon’s Wonder Woman script is (deservedly) getting torn to pieces by tumblr at the moment for being very sexist and filtering Diana’s superhero journey through the lens of a male character, and more importantly, appealing almost entirely to a male audience as well.

Whedon’s script would still be a sexist mess even if it had been written by a fan as a fanfiction and posted on AO3. I mean, I doubt as many people would care about it, in that case, and there wouldn’t be the worry over how close it came to being the actual movie, but it would still be just as sexist.

So keeping that in mind, I don’t really see how so many people can be upset over Black Panther fans telling people to stop putting white-centric stuff in the Black Panther tag. If you can understand why having a Wonder Woman movie that prioritized Steve would have been an offensive disaster, you should have no problems understanding why having the Black Panther tag full of meta speculation on Bucky, or GIF’s of Martin Freeman, is also an offensive disaster.

Wonder Woman is for women. Black Panther is for black people. Everyone can enjoy them, but anybody who decides to enjoy them in ways that disregard the perspective of the people they are meant to be heroes for, is fucking up. Whether they are a paid professional or an unpaid amateur doesn’t make a difference in this regard. Diana does not exist for male consumption, and T’Challa and Wakanda do not exist for white consumption. If you can’t enjoy one or both of the movies while also respecting that, then I would sincerely consider taking a long moment of self-reflection to ask yourself why. There is no shortage of male heroes and no shortage of white heroes. If you want a hyper-advanced society for white male characters to play in, use Asgard.

It’s that simple.

of course they are…

– A former Republican politican makes a comic turning an anti-Nazi icon (and another Jewish/Roma hero) into Nazi anologues: Years long run and the largest Marvel event since the reboot with millions of dollars in advertising

Black creators make an all black team made up of the most prominent Black super heroes of all time: two-issues, zero advertising

I just heard about this last month I was looking forward to reading it :/

So I don’t really follow comics at all but after reading the article it sounds like

This comic is still going to it’s 6th issue

If you want to show Marvel where it can shove it’s decision making, put the 3.99 you can’t spend in good conscience on Captain America towards the remaining four issues of this. They’ll either have to go back on this desicion or stand by it and look transparent as fuck.
