Tear gas

Do not wear contact lenses if you are in a situation where you may be tear-gassed.  When I went through basic training, we were warned that there was a possibility the tear gas they were using could melt contact lenses.

BOOOOOOOOOOOST!!!!!!!!!!

Tear gas does not melt contact lenses. The problem instead is that tear gas can get trapped under the lens and the particles will continue to burn on your corneas and could cause permanent damage.

Regardless, if you get exposed to pepper spray, tear gas or any other CS and you are wearing contacts – remove them asap and THROW THEM AWAY. They are contaminated and you will not get them clean.
