Captain America: The Winter Soldier Audio Commentary:

“You think
Pierce’s come down and the assassin is here to kill him, but the reversal is
he’s here for instructions. This sort of structure, where someone comes in to a
place thinking they’ll be alone and somebody is already there, happens 3 times
in the movie. It is slightly symbolic of the fact that HYDRA’s been there all
along.
Fury’s there when Steve comes in, Winter Soldier is here, and Fury’s
there again later in the cave.”

Captain America: The Winter Soldier Audio Commentary:

“The hardest thing to do as an actor is to act without dialogue. Sebastian Stan did such an incredible job with this character, gave him so much life, complexity
and texture without a lot of dialogue.
He conveyed incredible menace just through movement for a good 60
minutes of the movie. It’s always difficult to convey emotion without speaking.”

Captain America: The Winter Soldier Audio Commentary:

“This is the revelation of Bucky. We wanted to do it when the whole world was falling in on Steve. To find out that the one thing he thought he knew was not even true was like having the final rug pulled out from under him. The worst thing that could happen to Steve is “my best friend, who I thought was dead, is a killing machine”. It’s so rare that you have such an emotional connection between a hero and a villain. Best friends turned into mortal enemies is in a way even more tragic.”
